Hi, I’m Kathi.

I’m an author, wife, and mom to two young adult sons. The author part is new. I started writing a few years ago, after 20+ years in engineering.

From a young age, I dreamed of being a writer. I thought that people were generally good with numbers or words, so I couldn’t be a writer and an engineer. I decided I’d never know until I tried, and I jumped into an online writing class. I learned a lot during that first draft, but the most important lesson was that I feel most true to myself when I’m writing. I like the combination of creativity and craftsmanship, and I love making things up as I go.

As a recovering engineer turned writer, I love a tidy solution and a straight line. However, my writing style proves to be anything but predictable and orderly. I let my hopeless romantic sensibilities shape coming of age stories based on characters or places that have affected my own life.

I was raised in Montana and attended Montana Tech University in Butte. I met a brown eyed hunk the first day of college and married him years later. We traveled the country with our careers in heavy civil construction, where we worked together for the same company to keep things interesting. After living in 6 states in 8 years, we returned to Montana, where we now live with our two sons.

When I’m not writing, you can find me swimming in the lake keeping my mermaid tail supple, with my nose in a book escaping my reality, or on the sidelines of one of my sons’ activities fulfilling my role as professional sports mom.

“I learned to read when I was four years old, and haven’t been far from books since then. I fell asleep with cardboard books on my pillow then, now it’s falling asleep when my kindle hits my face. ”
